Cheap “Ready Readers” can cause eye strain!

The quality of over-the-counter glasses has been exposed by consumer watchdog Which? UK, with an investigation concluding that off the peg specs ‘could cause headaches due to eye strain, slight dizziness and even double vision.’

An unnamed optometrist was asked to assess 18 pairs of ready-made spectacles which had been purchased from 11 High Street chains, including Poundstretcher, Superdrug and Boots.

The investigation identified the worst offender to be a pair of Clarifeye glasses purchased from Poundstretcher which had three major faults – the lenses were distorted, loose in the frame and not centered correctly!!

Therefore glasses should be tailored made to the prescription and needs of the individual and only dispensed by qualified professionals.
